Monday Prison Riot Prompts Partial Lock-Down

Westville Correctional Facility officials say a dispute between rival gang members led to a Monday night riot in the prison’s general services area. WSBT-TV reports 100 or so inmates were involved in the uprising, and about a dozen were injured. A prison spokeswoman told the TV station most were treated at the facility. The ones who were taken to an outside facility for treatment have returned. A portion of the low-to-medium security prison was placed on lock-down following the incident, which was brought under control quickly by staff there. No correctional workers were injured. Criminal charges are not anticipated against the offenders, but they will likely face some sort of in-house disciplinary action.
