Students from all over the county were present for the opportunity to look at the many displays put out by different manufacturers. This was a chance for the students to see what industry is available for them in the county and to ask questions about what each manufacturer specialized in and about potential employment.
Superintendent A.J. Gappa said special effort was made by Melissa Heim and her 7th grade students in the event.
“Melissa Heim, a 7th grade science teacher, took it upon herself and with the help of the other 7th grade teachers and counselor Sonia Hensley, they created a curriculum packet that coincided with Manufacturer’s Day,” said Gappa. “Before our kids ever went into view the manufacturers, they had some assignments to do. They looked up the foundation or the formation of these different corporations, researched how long they’ve been in existence in Starke County and their operations within the county. After viewing and taking a tour through the gym where the displays were put up, they did some follow-up work.”
One of the follow-up assignments they did was write thank-you notes and those were reviewed for proper grammar and spelling.
