The Knox Community School Board members discussed the Teacher Document of Agreement during their meeting Monday night.

Superintendent A.J. Gappa commented that this was the first time reviewing this contract under the new state law. The old contract had expired June 30 but came to an agreement by the deadline of Sept. 30.

“We met under the guidelines of the new law with our teacher representatives, the Knox Federation of Teachers. We probably had four or five meetings and they were much different than in the past. The meetings were more open and we were sharing information rather than trying to bargain for things. Everything was on the table. Everybody knew that we’ve lost a few students in the past few years and there’s not a lot of money flowing in. We worked with what we could and we came to an agreement before the end of September,” said Gappa.

The teachers union ratified their portion of the agreement last week and the board ratified and approved the agreement Monday night during their regular meeting. Gappa said all is moving forward for another year.
