Indiana Bicentennial Train to Visit Valparaiso

One of the first events leading up to the Indiana Bicentennial Celebration in 2016 is headed our way! The Indiana Bicentennial Train will be in downtown Valparaiso Oct. 10–12, with a number of attractions including “The Next Indiana,” an onboard bicentennial exhibition that explores the state’s past; a specially created character performed by historic interpreter Kevin Stonerock; hands-on educational activities tied to the Indiana Academic Standards; and a pop-up market with Indiana and bicentennial-related items from the Indiana Historical Society. Visitors will also be able to share ideas in a creative community space.

The train will be available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is free to the public, located at West Lincolnway at Campbell Street near the Franklin House restaurant. On Saturday, parking will be available in the City of Valparaiso lot. On Thursday and Friday, visitors are encouraged to park along Lincolnway, Campbell Street or Indiana Avenue.

The train will also stop in Delphi at the Canal Center Oct. 17–19. Schools and groups are welcome. Please make reservations for groups of more than 10. To make a group reservation, call (317) 234-7384 or visit http://www.indianahistory.org/train for more information.
