Plan Now for a Disaster

September is National Preparedness Month and you can take simple and inexpensive steps to be prepared in case of a disaster.

A disaster or emergency, such as a winter storm, tornado or flooding, may leave you without electricity, heat or even running water. You also could be cut off from getting local groceries and services or even immediate response from police, fire or emergency responders. Are you prepared if this happens?

Work with family and neighbors to make an emergency plan. Make a ready list of all the items your family would need in a preparedness kit. Plan to purchase items to put into your preparedness kit. Accumulate extra items with coupons and sales and don’t wait until the last minute. Also, check expiration dates of items in your preparedness kit periodically to ensure your supplies are up-to-date.

Getting prepared doesn’t have to be costly and plans shouldn’t wait. The next disaster could affect you.
