INDOT Announces Three-Day Closure of State Road 331 South of Bremen

INDOT has announced the closure of another road, this time State Road 331 between State Road 106 near Bremen and U.S. 30, beginning Monday, Sept. 9 until Wednesday, Sept. 11. Crews will be performing a chip seal and fog seal operation in an effort to preserve the road surface, and like all projects of this nature, the work is dependent on dry weather and may be delayed if conditions aren’t ideal.

Drivers wishing to travel southbound on State Road 331 will be detoured west on State Road 106, west on U.S. 6, south on U.S. 31, east on U.S. 30 and back to State Road 331. Drivers wishing to travel northbound on State Road 331 will be detoured west on U.S. 30, north on U.S. 31, east on U.S. 6, east on State Road 106, and back to State Road 331.

The chip-seal process involves distributing a liquid asphalt emulsion on the roadway and covering that with crushed stone to provide a new wearing surface, extending the life of a roadway by protecting it from moisture, ultra-violet degradation and any other damaging exposures.

Exercise caution during this project, as loose stone will be present on the roadway during the initial cure of the asphalt and can damage windshields and paint on vehicles that are following each other too closely. Slow down, and allow additional space between vehicles.
