Two Arrested in Shooting Incident in LaPorte County

A father and son were arrested today after a shooting incident in a parking area of Purdue University North Central.

LaPorte County deputies determined that a disagreement over a narcotics transaction at a residence in the 9500 West block of County Road 125 South led to the shooting incident.

Multiple gunshots were fired at a vehicle parked the residence that was occupied by four juveniles. A 17-year-old juvenile riding in the back seat suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound in his hip as a round penetrated the vehicle. The three other occupants fled to Purdue North Central. The victim was transported to a hospital in Michigan City for treatment.

58-year-old David Diederich and his son 16-year-old Jeremy Diederich were arrested in the incident. David Diederich was booked into the LaPorte County Jail on preliminary charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Violent Felon, Dangerous Control of a Child, and Aiding, Inducing and Causing Dealing Marijuana. His bond has been set at $25,000.

Jeremy Diederich faces preliminary charges of Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery, Criminal Recklessness, and Dealing Marijuana. He is being charged as an adult in this case and is being held in the LaPorte County Jail with no bond.

LaPorte police are still attempting to locate a vehicle that was involved in a crash near the scene of the shooting. The victim’s vehicle was in an accident with a dark colored pickup as it fled the scene after being shot at.
