Students Gearing Up to Head Back to School This Week

It’s back to school week throughout the Kankakee Valley and many children are doing their best to enjoy these last few days of freedom from teachers, homework and classes. Registration is behind them, they’ve got their shots and it’s time to begin the new school year.

At Knox Community Schools, students will be heading to the classrooms for their first day back today. Elementary students begin their day at 7:50 a.m. and leave at 2:50 p.m.; middle school students start at 7:35 a.m., leaving at 2:40 p.m.; and high school students begin at 8 a.m. and leave at 2:55 p.m. Students will be dismissed a half-hour early every Friday.

At Eastern Pulaski Schools, school is in session for their first day back on Wednesday, Aug. 14 for a full day. Elementary students must be in the classroom before 8:05 a.m. and will be dismissed at 3:10 p.m., while high school and middle school students must be in their seats by 8:05 a.m. and will be dismissed at 3:20 p.m. Grades 7, 8 and 9 will be issued school iPads for the 2013-2014 school year.

Today is also the first day for students at Culver Community Schools, where middle and high school students will undergo orientation at 8 a.m. in their respective gymnasiums. The bell will ring at 7:45 a.m. for students to enter the building. On Fridays, elementary students will be released at 2:30 p.m., while middle and high school students will be released at 2:45 p.m. to allow for professional development of the staff.

Meanwhile, the first day for students at North Judson-San Pierre, West Central and Oregon-Davis  is Wednesday, Aug. 14.
