Monterey Days Festival Kicked Off Yesterday

It’s finally here! The 16th annual Monterey Days Festival kicked off yesterday, featuring a number of events to entertain guests through Monday. The craft and food booths opened on Friday, alongside the Mister and Miss Monterey Days Pageant and open mic karaoke, hosted by Ruff Kutt Entertainment.

But the events really kick into action beginning at 8 a.m. today with a Knights of Columbus pancake and sausage breakfast to start off the full day of events. Town-wide yard sales will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with craft and food booths opening at 9 a.m., the same time as the MRZ Mobile Reptile Zoo opens with free admission. A library book and DVD sale will take place in the library parking lot at 9 a.m. as well.

A number of other events are also planned for today, including a pedal tractor pull, karaoke contest, mini excavating rodeo, parade, kiss the pig contest, hillbilly cart run, and other features.

On Sunday, the festival features turtle and frog races, a potato sack race, tractor square dancing, entertainment by Quentin Flagg, Sentimental Journey, an ice cream social and an auction, as well as many other events.

The festival wraps up Monday, Sept. 2, ending with a three-on-three basketball tournament with registration beginning at noon. A car show and cornhole tournament will also take place beginning at 9 a.m.
