LaPorte County Metro Operations Unit Makes 7th Heroin Arrest in Two Weeks

The LaPorte County Metro Operations Unit made its sixth and seventh arrests related to heroin within the last two weeks on Friday. A 31-year-old LaPorte man was arrested by investigators from the LaPorte County Metro Operations Unit on Friday on an outstanding warrant for two counts of dealing in heroin. Benjamin C. Heiman had been wanted for two counts of Dealing a Schedule I Controlled Substance (heroin), both Class A felonies. He was arrested at his home located in the 300 block of Niles Street in LaPorte without incident.

Heiman was transported to the LaPorte County Jail where he is being held on a $100,000 bond. He will make his first appearance in LaPorte County Circuit Court on Aug. 23.

Meanwhile, officers also arrested 29-year-old Amber L. Malstaff following a traffic stop in the city of LaPorte. Police learned a warrant was out for Malstaff’s arrest after she had been stopped, and she was taken into custody on a warrant for Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance as a Class D felony and Possession of Paraphernalia as a Class A misdemeanor.

Malstaff was transported to the LaPorte County Jail where she is held without bond. She will appear in court on Aug. 21.
