Lapaz Fire Department Receives Grant

The Lapaz-North Township Fire Department is the recipient of a $4,000 Department of Homeland Security Foundation Grant.

According to Fire Chief Chris Oginsky, the money will be used to purchase a K-12 rescue saw and blades, plus a plastic cribbing set to be utilized on auto extrication incidents.

Oginsky explained that there are a high amount of home with metal roofs and this new saw will allow firefighters to cut through ventilation holes. It will also allow the cutting of fences, concrete, grain bins and more.

The lighter-weight plastic cribbing will replace the old wooden blocks. This will make operations much safer for the firefighters and for victims.

This grant was made possible from the “Secure Indiana” license nation which offers financial support for critical public safety needs across the state.
