A man who tampered with his electronic monitoring device in May pleaded guilty to a charge of Escape as a Class D felony and Criminal Mischief as a Class A misdemeanor in Starke Circuit Court yesterday. Brenan Sanchez had been arrested in May after removing the device and then allegedly participating in a breaking and entering incident in the Mishawaka area.

While formal charges for the breaking and entering charge are being handled in St. Joseph courts, Sanchez was held responsible for tampering with the device in Starke County because he was on home detention through Starke County Community Corrections after pleading guilty to a charge of Battery as a Class C felony.

Sanchez pleaded guilty to the charges yesterday and a sentencing hearing has been set for Oct. 2 in Starke Circuit Court. He also previously admitted to violating his probation.
