Core sampling has been completed on Lake Maxinkuckee by the United States Geological Survey and preliminary results have been released.

According to a newsletter posted on the Lake Maxinkuckee Environmental Council website, the USGS team members tested for water clarity, turbidity, dissolved oxygen levels, PH, water column temperatures as well as chlorophyll.

The unofficial preliminary results found that the PH level is neutral, which is a good result. Temperatures around the lake varied from site to site tested. Dissolved oxygen was reported as plentiful which is a good result. Turbidity, which is haziness or cloudiness of the water, is clear at every depth of the lake and the total chlorophyll was low to moderate which also is a good result.

The samples are in Kansas for a formal analysis. The scientists will begin the work of reading the history of Lake Maxinkuckee for the last two hundred years.

The reason for the testing was to find any threats that need to be addressed at Lake Maxinkuckee.
