The Pulaski County Commissioners are considering the idea of moving life insurance options and disabilities to Symetra Life Insurance following a presentation from Dave Bennett and Bob Zavacky as well as a representative from Cigna. Bennett explained that Symetra would offer a better rate for short-term disability and life insurance, saving the county more than $1400 per year with a 36-month guaranteed rate.

Zavacky told the commissioners that the county made more claims than had been expected – 25 percent more than their estimated number of claims, but Zavacky said that’s not a surprise. In June, however, the county dropped to only 15 percent more than their expected claims, so progress is being made. Eighteen health benefit recipients incurred over $12,000 in claims over the last year, and seven members exceeded $50,000.

The commissioners made and approved a motion to maintain current premium levels for employees despite a number of rising premiums and consider changing life insurance options and disabilities to Cigna.
