The Antiquarian and Historical Society of Culver will soon be hosting a program detailing the history of the “Launches of Lake Maxinkuckee” at the Culver Public Library. The program, scheduled for Saturday, July 13, begins at 10 a.m. in the large meeting room.

The audio-visual program includes extensive historical photos as well as video clips and will be presented by Jeff Kenney of the AHS. The program traces the history of boats on the lake, starting with the Indians and earliest settlers and moving through the abundant steamboat era, the age of the Maxinkuckee tour boat, and will include discussions of various launches of the Culver Academies’ fleet.

This free program is open to the public and attendees are invited to tour the museum after the program to view the historic launches and related artifacts, as well as the current Kurt Vonnegut and Vonneguts of Lake Maxinkuckee exhibit. For more information, email historyofculver@gmail.com or call (574) 842-2941 and ask for the Center for Culver History, the AHS’ museum and research center, located in the lower level of the library.
