Pulaski County Highway Department to Purchase New Software

The Pulaski County Highway Department will soon have a much easier time tracking resources, as the county commissioners this week passed a motion to purchase a county highway resource tracking system at a cost of $6000 for the first year, $1500 for the second. Mark Fox, highway superintendent, told the commissioners that the first year’s cost would include the purchase and licensing fee, software training and support as well as enhancements and future updates.

Fox explained that the software would allow the department to set up various projects and track resources dedicated to each task, as well as assign employees resources and equipment and track man-hours, labor costs, material expenses and other expenditures. He said 33 counties in Indiana have begun using this program.

The commissioners passed a motion to proceed with the purchase, but the matter will go to the county council next for their approval. If they decide to proceed, the purchase request will then go to the state, and if they clear it, the software will soon be installed in the highway department. However, Auditor Shelia Garling said it will be at least a 60-day ordeal.

The $1500 fee for the second year, and every year after, will also include enhancements and updates and Fox can have the money budgeted into his department’s fund.
