The new wing is looking more and more complete each day, and Urwiler said they’re still on track for completion toward the end of August or early September. The crew will soon finish putting in the windows and then the masonry work will take priority as they improve the exterior of the addition, matching the look of the existing library. Workers will also be working on the electrical infrastructure next week as well.
Urwiler said the unpredictable weather of late has not been a problem for the contractors.
“They’ve actually, because they do have the roof on the children’s part done, they’ve been able to work inside without any problem and, so knock on wood, everything’s going smoothly and now they are able to work even when it’s raining,” said Urwiler.
No work has been done inside of the building yet as the children’s department needs to be done before work can commence. About 4,000 square feet will be added to the northwest part of the building as part of this construction project, with that area serving as a new children’s wing that will have more controlled access and better sound protection.
Urwiler said the added space will also provide more room for computers. Part of the area will be set aside for a young adult section which is currently situated in the loft area of the library.
The total cost of the project is $1.785 million.
