Watch for Mopeds on Indiana’s roadways

Warmer weather is here and that means more mopeds will be on the roads.

Indiana State Police officials remind you to abide by the rules when it comes to moped use.

To ride a moped, drivers should be at least the age of 15 and they must possess a Bureau of Motor Vehicles-issued license or identification card. A motorcycle license is not required to operate a moped as long as it does not exceed the moped definition criteria.

Operators under the age of 18 are required to wear a helmet and eye protection. Mopeds are not allowed on sidewalks or interstate highways. Mopeds cannot be operated from 30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes before sunrise without having a headlight and taillight. Violations can result in a $150 fine.
