The Pulaski County Commissioners and Building Inspector Dave Dare held a discussion regarding an unsafe building at 533 N. Monticello St. in Winamac that Dare said is in very bad shape and needs to be addressed. He said the order to repair or demolish the building went out on April 24 and he received confirmation of its delivery via certified mail on April 26.
Larry Galbreath, the owner of the property in question, was present and explained that he knows the building is in bad shape but he originally intended to repair the structure. Unfortunately, he said he became sick and went through an operation, causing him to just recently get back on his feet. Now he explained he is working on the inside of the house to remove items before he tears it down.
Dare said the property is definitely an unsafe structure, and said the order from the town of Winamac requires that action be taken to rectify the problems. He said he has no objection to allowing Galbreath to remove items and take care of tearing the building down, but he only has until the 60-day period is up – that is, June 28.
Galbreath asked if he could get a 30-day extension to the order, but the commissioners explained that he would have to come back at their meeting on June 17. If he has made substantial progress on the property, they will consider the request.
