New Stone to Be Dedicated at Winamac Pocket Park

In a combined effort, the American Legion and VFW in Winamac will be dedicating a new stone at the base of the flagpole in the pocket park. VFW Commander Greg “Hank” Henry said the VFW will be holding their annual Memorial Day services at 11 a.m. at the courthouse; immediately following that, he said the VFW and American Legion will travel to the new pocket park in Winamac to dedicate a new stone at 11:30 a.m.

“It’s just a new stone at the base of the new flagpole at the pocket park in Winamac, and it is to memorialize the veterans that have served in the past and the ones that are serving now and any of those that will serve in the future. It’s just a brand new small stone, but it will be right at the base of the flagpole,” said Henry.

The services at the courthouse will consist of a guest speaker, prayer, and a 21-gun salute, while the ceremony at the pocket park will include a brief dedication of the stone, a prayer, and a 14-gun salute.
