Mint Festival Just a Month Away; Planning Underway

Mint Festival planning is in full swing as officials prepare for the upcoming event that’s just a month away. North Judson Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry said a regular meeting was held last night to make sure the planning for all the different festival events is on track, and as the event continues to draw near, Henry said the committee will be working tirelessly to get all the loose ends tied up to have a successful festival.

This year, the Mint Festival will be bringing back an attraction that had ceased several years past: the Mint Tour, a tour of local mint farms offering a unique perspective into the plant that is the festival’s namesake. Henry said the festival used to feature several tours over the course of the weekend, but the mint farmers in the area stopped offering them. Now, however, the Wappel family has agreed to host a mint tour at their farm on Saturday, June 15 at 2 p.m. Two buses from Community Services of Starke County will transport people from the festival to the mint farm at no cost but donations will be accepted.

This year’s Mint Festival theme is “Mint is Green in 2013.” The Mint Festival pageant is scheduled for June 7 at the North Judson-San Pierre High School, and the committee is currently in the process of receiving applications.
