The Knox Community School Board approved the hire of several teachers for summer school instruction during their meeting Monday night.

Most of the staff hired will be at the elementary school level while others were hired for English, Algebra, World Literature/Spanish, Social Studies, P.E., Graphics, and Economics at the middle and high school levels. Superintendent A.J. Gappa said some of the teachers will not be needed as it depends on training and enrollment for certain classes.

The board also approved the retirement request submitted by Sharon Wallsmith who has been a teacher with the Knox Community School Corporation for over 30 years.

During the administrators report, Middle School Principal Dave Miller thought that everything went smoothly during the gas leak reported at the library a few weeks ago. The elementary students were escorted to the middle school and were fed lunch in the cafeteria. Miller said it was a struggle, but the cafeteria staff did a great job in accommodating to the sudden changes.

Miller also reported that the middle school is now a Riley Hospital Miracle School. They held several fundraisers during the school year with the donations equaling more than $1 per student.
