Fundraiser Set for Shop with a Cop Event

The Kankakee Valley Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #129 does a lot for the children in the community and they are planning a fundraiser for the third Annual Shop with a Cop event in August.

FOP President Chris Kisela, an officer of the Knox City Police Department, said the money raised from this fundraiser will help give eligible Starke County children a chance to get needed supplies for the upcoming school year. He hopes enough money can be raised to assist 60 children.

Kisela explained that the FOP voted to assist children before the start of school rather than at Christmas time as it’s a little more meaningful. The kids can pick up necessary items to help them be successful in school.

During the Shop with a Cop event, FOP members take the children to a local business and shop for clothes, paper, pencils, backpacks and other supplies. Each student has a certain amount of money to spend in the store. The officers, kids and parents have a great time shopping.

A pulled pork fundraiser to help create funds for the Shop with a Cop event is set for Saturday, June 8 from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. at the Knox South Side Fire Station at the intersection of U.S. 35 and Clabaugh Drive. For $5, you get a pulled pork sandwich, chips and a drink.

The Kankakee Valley FOP Lodge #129 consists of officers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, Knox City Police Department, North Judson Police Department, Indiana State Police, and conservation officers from the Department of Natural Resources.
