Relay for Life Pageant Surpasses $1500 Goal

The inaugural Relay for Life Pageant sponsored by DeMotte State Bank surpassed their every hope, according to Co-director Pamela McDonald. She said with the 33 contestants that turned out, and the more than 200 attendees, the event raised more than their goal of $1500, and the success has pushed them to hold the pageant again next year due to the event’s overwhelming achievement.

McDonald said the funds will be donated to Relay for Life and were raised through a combination of entry fees, ticket and concession sales and other donations.

Age groups ranged from Teeny Tiny Miss, 1-3; Tiny Miss, ages 4-7; Little Miss, ages 8-12; and Miss, ages 13-18. This year’s winners of the pageant were Teeny Tiny Miss Bristol Roberts, Tiny Miss Madlin Hamilton, Little Miss Kenzie McDaniel, and Miss Summer Thompson.

Coordinator Candice Miller said many of the contestants took part because proceeds benefit cancer research. That’s also why the DeMotte State Bank is fielding a team; Miller is a cancer survivor, and says many members of the bank’s close-knit staff have been touched by the disease.

McDonald said people are already requesting the event for next year, and the great turnout and the overwhelming show of support have cemented the event for Relay for Life.
