Plymouth Man Injured after Moped Accident

A Plymouth man was injured after a moped accident Tuesday morning.

Indiana State Police officers and emergency personnel responded to the crash on 7B Road west of Oak Road and found the Michael T. Auer, 52, had crashed his moped into a wood chipper that was being used by workers alongside the road.

Witnesses reportedly told police that Auer disregarded men in the road that were directing traffic around the area. Preliminary investigation by police showed that Auer drove his moped directly into the back of the wood chipper and did not take any evasive action prior to the crash.

Auer suffered severe lacerations to his head and fractures to his lower extremities. He was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Police believe that drug use may have played a role in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
