“Operation Lost Innocence” was conducted in LaPorte County this week. This is an effort by various local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to check compliance of sex offenders.

Parole officers and investigators from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, Michigan City Police and United States Marshals Service verified residency and employment of 87 sex offenders who reside and work in LaPorte County.

The sex offenders who were targeted were those that have been identified by Indiana Code as Sexually Violent Predators or Offenders Against Children. While 93 of those offenders were found to be compliant, six offenders were found to be non-compliant and it is anticipated that they will be charged criminally with violations of Indiana’s Sex and Violent Offender laws.

There are currently 147 registered Sex and Violent offenders residing in LaPorte County and this recent compliance sweep was designed to target those convicted offenders who committed acts against children.
