National Volunteer Week This Week; Pulaski Memorial Hospice Seeking Volunteers

National Volunteer Week is this week, April 21–27, and many organizations throughout the area are looking for volunteers to help provide necessary services to the community. Pulaski Memorial Hospice is one such organization looking for volunteers to help provide important services to hospice organizations and the people they serve.

Whether it’s providing companionship to a person in the final months and weeks of life, offering support to family members and caregivers, or even helping with community outreach programs or fundraising, volunteerism is essential to the important and life-changing work provided by hospice programs throughout the United States. Hospice care was founded by volunteers and that volunteer commitment continues, as Medicare regulations require that hospices include trained volunteers as part of the services they provide.

Being a hospice volunteer, you can gain great personal satisfaction in knowing that your actions have made an impact on not just another person’s life, but your community as a whole. To learn more about volunteering, contact Karen Utes, volunteer coordinator at Pulaski Memorial Hospice, at (574) 946-2140.

Pulaski Memorial Hospice is also looking for volunteers to work the day of their fifth annual “Race for Rick,” to be held on Saturday, July 20. Rick Haschel was an avid runner who twice completed the Chicago Marathon. He lost the battle to cancer in May 2002, and in his memory, all proceeds from the 5K race will go to Pulaski Memorial Hospice to assist them in caring for terminally ill patients and their families.
