The 25th anniversary of the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum kicks off Saturday, May 4, with 25 percent off all train excursion fares for the entire day. Round-trip excursions start at the North Judson depot and travel across the Kankakee River through the Starke and LaPorte County countryside, providing passengers with beautiful sights and sounds as they travel in open-air cars, vintage cabooses, or a commuter coach.

The museum is encouraging visitors to bring Mom out and give her an early Mother’s Day gift of a train excursion on Saturday, May 11. Fare for mothers will be half-price and all ladies will be given a carnation. The train excursion which begins at 2:45 p.m. is a special charter in partnership with the Southern Appalachia Railway Museum.. The train will travel to LaCrosse before continuing on to the Norfolk Southern Exchange in Thomaston.

Passengers will be given several opportunities to disembark for photos as the train does a run-by, marking the occasion of the museum’s first tourist excursion over the tracks north of LaCrosse to Thomaston. Visit their website at hoosiervalley.org to make advanced reservations.

The museum, as always, is free and open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT, year-round. Train excursions take place beginning in May through October and for special events. The season’s event schedule is available on their website, or call the depot on Saturdays at (574) 896-3950 for more information.
