Voting Machines Prepared for Election Day

Representatives from Microvote were in the Starke County Courthouse Wednesday to help prepare the voting machines for the upcoming special election.

Mike Miller, a customer service representative for the company, explained what they did to help prepare for the May 7 election.

“We set up the election on the machines and they’re all test voted and tabulated,” explained Miller. “We
then put those tabulations into our system. It went quite well.”

This election will feature one question on the ballot for those registered to vote in the Knox Community School District. The question asks whether or not to fund a construction and renovation project pertaining to the old Palmer Wing at the elementary school.

Starke County Clerk Evelyn Skronski noted that absentee voting begins in two weeks.

“Absentee voting starts April 8 at 8 a.m. and we go for 29 days through noon on May 6 which is the day before the election,” said Skronski.

Absentee voting will be available Monday through Friday from April 8 to May 3 from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1-4 p.m. You have the option of voting on two Saturdays; April 27 or May 4 from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1-4 p.m. The last day to vote absentee is Monday, May 6 from 8 a.m. to noon. All in-office absentee voting will be conducted at the Starke County Courhouse. You must have a photo ID with you when you vote.

If you live in the Knox Community School District and have not registered to vote in a Starke County election before, you can register to vote in the clerk’s office now through April 8.
