Severe Weather Preparedness Week March 24-30

It’s time to prepare now for thunderstorms, tornadoes and flooding.

It’s Severe Weather Preparedness week in Indiana this week. Spring marks the change in season and that can produce severe weather. Planning and preparedness can help minimize weather related deaths, injuries and property damage.

You are encouraged to purchase an all-hazards radio for your home. The battery-powered radios have more than 60 emergency alerts such as hazardous weather and all local area warnings. It would also be a good idea to pack a family disaster kit. Items may include food and water for three days, a flashlight, extra batteries for your flashlight and all hazards radio, a first aid kit, extra clothing, rain gear, blankets and personal hygiene items. Keep some cash on hand and make sure your medications are accessible.

You will hear special tests of the Emergency Alert System on the air Wednesday, March 27 as part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week.
