An Oregon-Davis graduate recently received the state of Indiana “Student Teacher of the Year” award at the Indiana Council for Exceptional Children Conference held in Indianapolis. On Wednesday, Feb. 21, Karly Keiper – now a senior at Butler University studying elementary education – was given the award by the CEC, an international professional association dedicated to improving the educational success of children with disabilities, gifts, or talents.

Pat Smith has not only held the role of director of media marketing; she has also been the director of volunteer services and the director of the volunteer chaplain’s program.
IU Health LaPorte Offers Emergency Skills, First Aid Courses
IU Health LaPorte Hospital has begun offering emergency skills and first aid training and cpr in ottawa to the public in honor of American Heart Month, teaching adults CPR and the use of automatic external defibrillators as well as how to relieve choking on an adult.
Students in the Heartsaver® CPR/AED course will learn the critical skills and the knowledge required in order to respond to and manage an emergency situation within the first few minutes until emergency medical services can respond to the scene. The course runs at a cost of $50 and includes all teaching materials.
Starke County Library’s Adult Photo Contest Winners Announced
The winners are in for the Starke County Public Library’s third annual adult photo contest. With two winners for each of the three categories, three people left with the first place prize of a $30 gift certificate to Five Star, while second place winners received a $5 gift certificate to Fingerhut Bakery of Knox or North Judson.
