A local equestrienne recently signed her letter of intent to attend Miles Community College in Miles City, Mont. Shanena Saylor and her parents signed the letter to receive a full-ride rodeo scholarship to the college her father, Eurrat Saylor, attended on a similar scholarship 20 years ago.

Eurrat said the college wants to have Saylor compete on their rodeo team, and now that the scholarship has been finalized, the family is very excited.

“It’s something she’s always wanted to do – to compete in college rodeo. We contacted three or four different colleges and she wanted to go Miles City, and they offered the best scholarship, so she took it!” Eurrat said.

Eurrat said his daughter competed in the Women’s Professional Rodeo in October last year as a junior member before she was 18, traveling all the way to Lincoln, Nebr., before traveling up to Philadelphia to compete in a larger rodeo. Another competition just two days later took her to Montana, and a few days later, she and her family traveled to visit colleges. That’s when Eurrat said his daughter was approached by the coach for Miles Community College, who expressed interest in having Saylor compete on their team.

Saylor’s time at the two-year junior college will start in August, and Eurrat said that just two weeks after she begins school, she’ll compete in the first fall rodeo. Saylor has been riding horses her whole life, competing in rodeos and other events, and her father said that she’s looking forward to taking some general education classes as well as equine classes on managing stables to training horses. He said she is interested in managing and run her own equine farm, but she also wants to get into the chiropractic and acupuncture practices on horses.
