A Starke County woman pleaded guilty in circuit court this week to Attempted Trafficking with an Inmate as a Class C felony, admitting that she had tried to smuggle contraband into the Starke County Jail.

Lindsey Dennis has originally pleaded not guilty to the charge at her initial hearing in November, denying allegations that she helped to hide a controlled substance inside a deodorant container to sneak it into the jail. A Starke County Sheriff’s Department officer said he had listened to recordings of phone conversations at the jail and learned that inmate Vincent Rosetti had allegedly asked a woman to hide tobacco and other items in the deodorant container. On Sept. 26, the officer interviewed Dennis. She allegedly told police that Rosetti had called her and asked her to bring the items in and give them to inmate Chris Gross.

Dennis was sentenced to four years in the Department of Corrections with 18 months suspended, and will be permitted to serve the executed sentence on home detention with electronic monitoring. The state dismissed other charges against her.
