The Knox Community School Board recognized the Graphic Arts Department after quite an accomplishment.

Superintendent A.J. Gappa said some of the students were nationally certified in using the flexograph machine.

“Two weeks ago, four members of our graphic arts classes competed in a flexograph national competition in North Carolina put on by the flexograph industry,” said Gappa. “They paid for our kids and instructors to go out and compete in the high school competition. This was a first for them. Three of our four students did pass national certification for first year level in the flexograph so they would be eligible to be hired into that industry.”

The flexopgraph is a new piece of equipment the school received this year, thanks to the effort of Graphic Arts Instructor, Jeff Sullivan.

“We did get a flexograph machine donated. It’s the type of machine that can create many labels in mass production, like bread wrappers. It’s a growing part of the graphic arts industry around the country,” Gappa said.

Several members of the Graphic Arts department told the board of their experience and described the flexopress.
