Federally Extended Unemployment Benefits to Suffer Reduction April 8

Some more side effects of sequestration – that is, automatic federal spending cuts – have been announced. With the cuts beginning Monday, April 8, weekly payments of Federally Extended Unemployment Insurance benefits, also known as EEUC or weeks 27-63 of benefits, will be reduced by 10.7 percent, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

This reduction will be effective each week through the end of September 2013, but regular State Unemployment Insurance benefits or weeks 1-26 will not be affected. Unemployed Hoosiers who are receiving these benefits can find more information on the Indiana Department of Workforce Development’s website at www.in.gov/dwd and on UpLink, Indiana’s online benefit filing system.

Benefit claimants can estimate the reduction that will impact their weekly benefit amount by multiplying their previous weekly benefit amount of 8.893. The amount will always be rounded down to the next lower cent.

The Department of Workforce Development urges individuals to check their UpLink homepage and the department’s website regularly to receive any updates on the issue.
