Two LaPorte Men Arrested on Theft Charges

Two LaPorte men were arrested Thursday after reportedly stealing scrap metal from a business in LaPorte.

Witnesses called police to report seeing two people in a white pick-up hauling scrap metal from Fas-Pak. A witness followed the truck and kept police advised of its location.

Police intercepted the vehicle and reportedly saw several large pieces of metal I-beams and other scrap metal protruding from the bed of the truck. The driver, later identified as 29-year-old Michael King, of LaPorte, failed to signal a turn and police attempted a traffic stop. The driver stopped, but a passenger, Marek Konieczny, fled the vehicle. He was later taken into custody after police found him hiding underneath a boat and trailer in a yard on Pulaski Street.

King was arrested on preliminary charges of Theft and Driving While Suspended. Konieczny was arrested on a preliminary charge of Theft. Both suspects were taken to the LaPorte County Jail and booked on those charges.
