Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts noted that the proposed ordinance would allow residents in the town limits to house chickens on their property. She stated that several people have been in favor of the ordinance. No complaints were brought forth during the hearing.
If approved, the ordinance would include a yearly fee to register such animals within the town limits, plus other limitations concerning the number of fowl allowed and the distance in which pens can be placed on a property from an adjoining property.
Another public hearing on the matter is scheduled for March 5 at 6:30 p.m. CT at the Hamlet Town Hall.
