Two Sentenced for Battery in Starke Circuit Court

Two individuals accused of battering a male victim pleaded guilty to battery charges in the Starke Circuit Court last week and received their sentences. John Potter and Brenan Sanchez were arrested on May 3, 2012 after they allegedly brutally beat Kyle Brock multiple times, causing a severe broken nose, two broken ribs, swollen eye sockets, swelling in the head and neck, cuts on his entire body, and cuts to the inner lip. The police report indicates a tire iron was used in the attack.

John Potter pleaded guilty to Battery as a Class C felony and was sentenced to six years in the Department of Corrections with two of those years suspended to be served on probation. The court noted that he will be allowed to serve the last year of his executed sentence on a work release program through the Department of Corrections, and a no contact order remains in effect throughout his sentence.

Brenan Sanchez also pleaded guilty to Battery as a Class C felony and received a similar sentence: six years in the DOC with three of those years suspended to be served on probation. Two of the executed three-year sentence will be served in the DOC with the last year allowed to be served on home detention through Community Corrections.

Sanchez and Potter are both required to pay $3367.92 each in restitution to the victim.

Other charges including Aggravated Battery as a Class B felony, Robbery as a Class B felony, Pointing a Firearm as a Class D felony, and Theft as a Class D felony, were dismissed.
