Starke County Election Board to Meet Today

The Starke County Election Board is expected to meet at 10 a.m. this morning to discuss a number of topics, including the Knox Community School Corporation’s request to hold a special election on May 7 in order to present a public question to its voters.

The Election Board has to approve the request and the Department of Local Government Finance has to approve the wording of the question to appear on the ballot.

This is a non-election year so the Knox Community School Corporation will have to pay for this special election. Expenses include the ballot set-up, salaries for travel board and absentee board workers plus poll workers. That could cost between $10,000-$12,000.

The question pertains to the proposed Knox Community Elementary School building project. The Palmer Wing would be reconstructed and parts of the structure remodeled to help bring that part of the elementary school up to today’s infrastructure needs.

The public is invited to attend this meeting and it will be held in the second floor meeting room in the Starke County Courthouse. In addition to the school agenda item, the Election Board will be reorganizing and the members will be reviewing the 2012 General Election.
