Mike Pence Sworn in as Indiana’s Governor

Governor-elect Mike Pence gave his Inaugural Address today, thanking everyone who contributed to his success in the election including God and his family, supporters, and predecessors.

Pence said he is humbled by the trust placed in him by Hoosiers and accepted the responsibilities with gratitude and boundless confidence that Indiana is “poised for greatness.” He said that the leadership over the past eight years, and the service of thousands of dedicated public service, has led Indiana to emerge as “a torch of fiscal responsibility, innovation and reform.”

He went on to say that with so many Hoosiers struggling in this economy, everyone must be determined to leave Indiana “more prosperous, our children more prepared, and our communities and families stronger than ever before.”

To do this, Pence said Indiana must continue to live within its means, hold the line on spending, and let Hoosiers keep more of their income. He also said a focus must be made in putting children first, giving parents more choices and teachers more freedom to teach.

“We must also seek ways to strengthen the institutions that nurture the character of our people, most especially the family,” Pence said.

Pence is now Indiana’s 50th governor after he took the oath of office on a Statehouse balcony before a sea of supporters.
