Starke County Health Department Receives Used Jeep From Community Corrections

Starke County Commissioners

It may be a hand-me-down, but the Starke County Health Department doesn’t care; they’ll soon be putting to use an old Jeep from Community Corrections to allow the sanitarian to use it for business travels.

Starke County Commissioner Kathy Norem explained the Health Department has been looking around for a vehicle to be used by the sanitarian, but they haven’t had much luck; that is, until now, when Community Corrections acquired some new vehicles with their own funds and offered to give their old Jeep to the Health Department.

The commissioners approved the request, and the vehicle will soon be back on the road. Norem said that it turns out a lot of older Sheriff’s vehicles that the county has elected to keep and turn over to other county offices in need of vehicles has actually worked out quite well.

In addition, the commissioners at their meeting Thursday morning discussed a contract for elevator maintenance at the courthouse. The elevator had undergone some maintenance last year, which included the replacement of several parts and the repair of a leak in a seal, and Norem said they are now trying to find a less-expensive contract for maintenance.

The contract in question was taken under advisement to allow County Attorney Martin Lucas to evaluate it. The matter will be discussed further at their next meeting on Jan. 7.
