Plymouth Business Announces Closure

Kabelin Ace Hardware announced last week that they will soon be closing their store in Plymouth. A statement released by the company stated that the store did well, but the big box store competition over the last several years has become greater than the family store could overcome.

Kabelin came in Plymouth in 1996 and has moved three different times within the city before they settled on their final location on Oak Road. Kabelin Vice President Matt Moore said last week that the store has been going through hard times since before it moved to Oak Road from North Kingston Road in 2010. He had high hopes that the new location would be an improvement, but he said the relocation did not meet their expectations.

Fourteen employees will be affected by the closure of the store, but Moore said he’s hoping to place many of them at another Kabelin store. There is no specific date for the store to close down and lock up; Moore said it depends on how fast the store’s remaining inventory sells – though that might not take long, as the store is currently offering a 20 percent discount on all items.

Other Kabelin Ace Hardware stores will be unaffected.
