North Judson Town Board Encumbers Funds For Next Year

The North Judson Town Board is looking to the future as they approved a resolution to encumber some money from their paving funds over into the 2013 budget.

Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry explained that in order to save money from a 2012 fund to be used in 2013, the board must encumber the funds, which requires the board to have a proposal and a contract with the vendor. The vendor must guarantee that the price will be the same when the time comes to perform the service, usually in the spring.

Henry also said a Railroad Board member told the town board that the Santa train rides, held Dec. 7, boasted a total of 434 passengers. All season, the trains on Saturday posted a total passenger count of 4124, while the all-time total is 26,576 passengers.

Henry said the train has been a great tourist attraction for the community, and she was surprised at the total figures.

The North Judson Town Board will hold a special meeting to finalize any end-of-the-year business on Monday, Dec. 31 at 10 a.m. Also, municipal buildings will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25 in light of the holiday, including the clerk’s office.
