LaPorte Issues 227 Citations During Enforcement Blitz

Two hundred and twenty-seven citations were issued in LaPorte during the recent Safe Family Travel, Blitz 73 conducted by the LaPorte City Police Department Nov. 16–Dec. 2.

The department joined more than 250 law enforcement agencies across the state to conduct high-visibility impaired driving and seatbelt patrols.

More than 100 hours of seatbelt patrols and 94 hours of impaired driving patrols were made by LaPorte Police Department officers.

One hundred twenty-seven seatbelt citations, five child restraint citations and a number of other citations were issued to motorists for various traffic offenses. 11 arrests were made that included charges such as Dealing Heroin, Dealing Cocaine, Dealing Marijuana, Possession of Cocaine and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.

Captain Tom Heath says the success of the enforcement relies on law enforcement dedicating hours of overtime to the effort of ensuring everyone reaches their destinations safely.
