A construction worker lost his life Tuesday morning at NIPSCO’s generating station in Wheatfield after he reportedly fell from scaffolding.
The man, identified as Troy Jabaay, 49 of Hebron, was transferred to Porter Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead at 8:44 a.m. A contract employee with Safway Services LLC, Jabaay had been performing maintenance at the station when the accident occurred.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of death and what led up to the accident as officials await the results of the autopsy that was scheduled for Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, the Indiana Occupation Safety and Health Administration is conducting their own investigation of what transpired. Chetrice Mosley of the Department of Labor said the investigation will be comprehensive and determine whether or not the man was properly trained with the right equipment, and to ensure the employer has done everything they can to avoid injuries to employees.
The investigation may take up to six months, but Mosley said some have been completed in as little as two.
