91 Children Participate in Shop with a Cop

Ninety-one children participated in Shop with a Cop this year at Walmart.

Ninety-one kids from White and Pulaski counties enjoyed a day with police officers as part of the annual Shop with a Cop Program on Sunday. Approximately 31 kids from Pulaski County and 60 children from White County attended the event which included pizza, pictures with Santa, a police escort to Wal-Mart, and a shopping spree for purchases of much-needed clothing, and the kid’s favorite toys.

Pulaski County Sheriff Mike Gayer profusely thanked everyone who generously donated to the event, and the officers who participated on their own time to make this great program a success.

Pulaski County raised just over $4200 toward the program, while White County raised $14,000. Sheriff Gayer said his department will work in the upcoming months to raise additional funds in order to produce more revenue for the program.

Gayer said it’s all about the kids and helping parents who could use some assistance this year. No one knows when finances may be drained to pennies due to illness, disability, or job loss, Gayer said, and the memories of putting a smile on a kid’s face or receiving a hug is what makes it all worth it.
