Monticello Man Arrested For Domestic Battery At Gas Station

Matthew Robbins

A Monticello man was arrested Sunday after an alleged battery incident took place at a gas station in Medaryville.

A caller told Pulaski County police that a man and woman were fighting and he reportedly broke out the window in her car. When police arrived on scene, the man, later identified as Matthew Robbins, approached the driver’s side of the squad car in an aggressive manner. He was told to stop twice and he stopped and allegedly told the officer to take him to jail.

The officer ordered him to the ground and Robbins refused to follow a series of commands before being handcuffed.

The woman explained to police that she was traveling in the car with Robbins on U.S. 421 with their son in the backseat. Robbins was allegedly intoxicated and threw out a CD from the car. An argument ensued and she drove the car into the gas station’s parking lot and ordered him out of the car. He allegedly grabbed her shirt and then grabbed the keys before exiting the car. He went into the gas station, threw something at the victim and reportedly punched and shattered the rear window.

He allegedly told police that he had been drinking prior to the incident and the officer reportedly found an open can of alcohol outside of the car.

Matthew Robbins, 26, was arrested on preliminary charges of Domestic Battery with a Minor Child Present, Resisting Law Enforcement and Public Intoxication. He was taken to the Pulaski County Jail. Formal charges are pending with the Pulaski County Prosecutor’s Office.
