Long-time physician Dr. Walter Fritz is now seeing patients at the Knox-Winamac Community Center on Edgewood Drive in Knox.

According to interim CEO Kyle Small, the office is a Federally Qualified Health Care (FQHC) center that provides a high quality of care to under-insured and underprivileged patients, and the addition of Dr. Fritz to the staff will help in the goal in providing that care.

“We have been meeting with Dr. Fritz for an extended period of time and we’ve just been talking about the synergies we could create by having him join the Community Health Center,” said Small. “We try to treat the under-served. Dr. Fritz has been in Knox since 1974 and we just felt this was a good opportunity to try and pool interests and see if we could serve more people.”

Small talks more about the people that are served at the Knox-Winamac Community Center.

“We serve Starke, Pulaski and Marshall Counties. We take a lot of Medicare and Medicaid and we also take some commercial insurance. Our niche is that we have a sliding fee scale for those who are under-served or underprivileged. That’s how we got our designation from the government.”
