The court hearing scheduled for today in Jasper Circuit Court has been continued.

The Starke County Commissioners, the county’s legal counsel, plus Linda Belork and her legal counsel were ordered to appear today in Jasper Circuit Court at 3:00 p.m., but the hearing was continued. A rescheduled date has not been determined.

Judge John Potter has ordered the court hearing to hear the reasoning why the Starke County Commissioners closed the Starke County Treasurer’s Office thus nullifying his order reinstating Treasurer Linda Belork back into the office.

Judge Potter ordered that Belork be reinstated immediately to the office after he found that the Commissioners wrongfully removed her from office. Last week, the Commissioners met in emergency session to close the Treasurer’s Office after Belork returned to office because she did not have a surety bond. That action caused Judge Potter to demand that the Treasurer’s office be open and respond to an order to appear in court to explain why the Commissioners circumvented his order.

Linda Belork is currently in the Starke County Treasurer’s office and ready to serve you. If you have a tax payment to make in the office, the office is open and you may make your transaction. The tax deadline is Nov. 10.
