General Election Quickly Approaching, Several Contested Races

With the General Election just a week away, voters are preparing to head to the polls – if they haven’t already – to make their voices heard, and this election features a number of contested races at county, state, and federal levels.

For the U.S. Senate Race, Democrat Joe Donnelly will go toe-to-toe with Republican Richard Mourdock and Libertarian Andrew Horning. Incumbent Republican Senator Richard Lugar ran for his re-election for his seventh term, but was defeated in the primary by the Tea Party-backed Mourdock.

Three candidates will also square off in the race for U.S. Representative in District 2. Democratic incumbent Joe Donnelly, who has represented the district since 2007, is running for U.S. Senate rather than for re-election to the House of Representatives. The Democratic nominee is Brendan Mullen, an Army veteran and military contractor, while former State Representative Jackie Walorksi will run on the Republican ticket. Joseph Wayne Ruiz is the Libertarian candidate for the U.S. Representative in District 2.

In the gubernatorial election for Indiana, incumbent Governor Mitch Daniels is term-limited and unable to seek a third term. As a result, the Republican candidate, Congressman Mike Pence; the Democratic candidate, former Speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives John R. Gregg; and the Libertarian candidate, youth mentor and small business owner Rupert Boneham, will contest the general election, having all been unopposed in their respective primaries or conventions.

The election will take place on Nov. 6. This is your last full week of voting absentee in both Starke County and Pulaski County. In addition to a whole week availability to vote absentee, you can vote this Saturday, Nov. 3. In Starke County, you may vote from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. and in Pulaski County you have from 8 a.m. to noon ET. Voting will be conducted in each county’s courthouse.

Make sure that you have a valid Photo I.D. with you when you go to vote absentee and when you go to the polls on Election Day.
